As we know, it was Pedro Pascal who landed the role of Joel in HBO’s The Last of Us in the end, but of course more names were in all probability included in the equation before the choice finally fell on him. One who really wanted to play Joel was Supernatural actor Jensen Ackles as it seems to be one of his absolute dream roles. However, it is unclear whether Ackles was even included in the discussion when the role was to be filled.
Jensen Ackles recently said this at Nashcon on the matter:
I was really kind of pushing hard, I don’t think I was really in the mix or even had a shot at it, but for Pedro Pascal’s role in The Last of Us. That was really high up on my radar.”
The Last of Us premieres on HBO Max on January 15th, and we at the editorial office are of course very much looking forward to enjoying the series in its entirety.
