The president of United States, Joe Bidenarrived in kyiv on Monday on a surprise visit to meet with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, a few days from the first anniversary of the start of the Russian invasion.
The President of the United States makes a visit outside the official agenda, since he had announced that he would visit Poland but landed in kyiv.
Biden met in kyiv with Zelensky and announced $500 million in additional aid to Ukraine. In addition, he announced that this week he will announce more sanctions against Russia.
Biden’s is the first trip to Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion. He and Zelensky met for the first time on December 21 during a historic visit by the Ukrainian ruler to Washington, his first trip abroad since the war began.
