The American president also congratulated the police for their investigation and their “rapid” reaction to the dissemination of these confidential documents.

Joe Biden has ordered US intelligence services to “further secure” classified information, the president said in a statement on Friday, as the leaked confidential documents affair has embarrassed Washington for a week.

“While we continue to determine the authenticity of these documents, I have directed the military and intelligence agencies to take steps to further secure and limit the distribution of sensitive information, and our national security team is coordinating closely with our partners and allies,” said the US president, also commending law enforcement for their investigation and “quick” response to the release of these confidential documents.

Suspect arrested

The US Department of Justice has opened a criminal investigation after the documents leaked online, which detail Washington’s views on the war in Ukraine and appear to indicate intelligence gathering on close US allies.

Air National Guard employee Jack Teixeira was arrested and charged in the United States in connection with the investigation.
