Kalimba breaks silence in case of alleged sexual assault

MIAMI.- The Mexican singer Kalimba faces again a Judicial process for allegedly having sexually assaulted the interpreter Melissa Galindowho filed the complaint at the end of March.

After a hearing in which authorities confirmed that the 41-year-old artist should be prosecuted, Kalimba addressed the media and emphasized his confidence in his legal team and maintained that he is innocent and that he will prove it. “The truth is that I still trust the authorities a lot and I still trust the law a lot,” he began.

“There is nothing more to say, because in fact the judge asked both parties quite directly not to hinder the process, which is why we cannot talk more. The judge asked me not to talk much more about the subject; both of us parties told us that,” he said as he left the hearing in Mexico.

Likewise, he indicated that he respects the authorities and trusts in the process that is being developed. “I respect what the judge says, I am confident in what is coming, things are being done as they should be.”

Kalimba also stated that he is going through this process with faith and expressed to his fans that he will try to fulfill his professional commitments, since he was not prohibited from leaving the country.

“With love, faith, being united, being together, that’s how things are handled. I will be there for all my fans and all my audiences in the United States. They will see me singing justly there.”

Case against Kalimba

For his part, Eliser García, the singer’s lawyer, spoke about the investigations. “It is a natural process, the standard of evidence that the law now requires in this matter is minimal to reach this second part of the procedure, what comes next is a complementary stage of investigation.”

The Attorney General of Justice of Mexico City investigates the complaint of Galindo, who participated in the reality show The Voice: Mexico and stated that Kalimba touched her inappropriately on two occasions.

This is not the first time that the artist faces an accusation of sexual assault.

In 2011, he was arrested in Texas and later handed over to the Mexican authorities, as he was wanted for allegedly raping a 17-year-old teenager after a concert in Quintana Roo. However, the judge ruled that there was insufficient evidence and dropped the charges.
