Keanu Reeves stars in John Wick, a franchise already made up of four films and soon a fifth. For several years, the ex-actor of Matrix dons the costume of this famous hitman, and does not hide his fatigue or his weariness. In a new interview with Collider, John Wick producer Basil Iwanyk said Keanu Reeves was nothing more than “shadow of himself” after working on these four action films in which he performs most of his stunts. “After the 2nd, 3rd and 4th films, doing these productions is so exhausting and it destroys Keanu, physically and emotionally“he explains before revealing that the actor even asked that his character dies at the end of John Wick 4.

“In the end, he always says, ‘I can’t do this again,’ and we agree with him. He’s a shadow of himself because he always starts and runs. He said: ‘I want to be definitively killed at the end of this 4th film.'” csays Basil Iwanyk, who explains why he did not take into account the wishes of the star of the saga: “We said to ourselves: ‘We’re going to leave ourselves a small margin of 10%.'” And if you saw John Wick 4 in its entirety, you know the hitman’s death wasn’t explicitly shown.

John Wick 4 : the ending had to be much more explicit

As Basil Iwanyk revealed during an interview with Empirethe end of John Wick 4 was originally supposed to show “very clearly” that the hero was still alive. This revelation is not surprising since a fifth part has been ordered and Keanu Reeves will return in the lead role. However, the studio intends to first focus on the series The Continental before developing John Wick 5 : “I think there’s no doubt that it’s in development, but right now the story isn’t ready yet. And until the story is ready, it’s not isn’t… It’s definitely something we’re trying to work out. But we haven’t decided yet what this film will look like or what it will convey.”
