The British company Cleanbus completed the first prototype made using his own conversion kits for electric buses, thanks to which it is possible to convert diesel buses into electric buses with relatively few changes.
“electric motor in box”, so Kleanbus describes its conversion kit: the operation is quick and very efficient from the point of view of costs, and once the development is complete it will be possible to convert many single and double-decker buses into 100% electric buses. In support of the thesis that the conversion would be very cheap, Kleanbus states that al purchase price of a single electric bus among those available on the market 5 conversions can be made of old diesel buses, up to 10 years old.
The prototype that we can admire in the photos is a Opt Onlyis the first to be completed and driving tests will begin shortly, essential for setting all the components of the kit in the best possible way and maximizing performance while reducing fuel consumption.
Kleanbus will take care of produce engines built to the necessary specifications to the individual bus in question, will carry out a thorough assessment of how the vehicle is used and provide customers with a computer simulation capable of showing the result of the conversion even before starting work. Once the specifications are defined, the first step is to remove the old diesel engine and all associated systems; Chassis modifications are very fewas the Kleanbus kit is designed to go to position where the old engine was, while the interior of the bus can be completely revised in a modern key, according to the customer’s needs.
Kleanbus has already received ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications and continues to thoroughly test all components of its kit to ensure that the conversion is both successful and safe.
