William M., a 69-year-old former railway worker, is being prosecuted for murder and attempted murder after the massacre in the rue d’Enghien which killed three people on Friday.

The main suspect in the killing of the rue d’Enghien, which killed three people on Friday in Paris, was indicted on Monday for assassinations and attempted assassinations because of the membership, real or supposed, of the victims to an alleged race, ethnicity, nation or religion, as well as for the illegal acquisition and possession of category B firearms.

William M. is accused of having killed three people near a Kurdish cultural center located in the 10th arrondissement of Paris. Arrested immediately after the facts, William M. had admitted during his police custody all the facts of which he is accused, indicating that he had a pathological hatred of foreigners. He initially wanted to act in Seine-Saint-Denis, but faced with the few people present, he returned to the center of the capital.

William M.’s custody was lifted on Monday morning for his transfer. His indictment was decided this afternoon during a hearing before a judge of freedoms, who decided to remand him in custody. The closed session was ordered during the hearing by the Court.

Already remanded in custody

Due to the seriousness of the acts with which the suspect is charged, requisitions for the purposes of placement in pre-trial detention have been taken.

William M. appeared this Monday in the box with a black eye. Close-cropped hair and closed face, he sat straight in his chair. This is not the first time the man has had to deal with justice.

He is suspected in 2021 of having attacked a migrant camp with knives. He had already been placed in pre-trial detention in connection with this case, but had been released recently, the maximum period of pre-trial detention having been exceeded.
