A large-scale exercise by the police in Duissern with many forces from Duisburg and Essen has caused uncertainty. A police spokesman explains.

A large-scale exercise by the police around the facility of the Duisburg police sports club on the Futterstrasse in Duissern caused uncertainty on Tuesday.

Peter Schröder from the Kleingartenverein (KGV) Ruhrau 2021, which is also based there, reported to the editors at 10.45 a.m. “There are police everywhere here,” says Schröder. “The feed road is closed. We don’t come into our allotments and don’t know what’s going on.”

When asked by the editors, Duisburg police spokesman Stefan Hausch clarified. Accordingly, the exercise started at 9 a.m. with numerous forces from Duisburg, but also from Essen. “We’re simulating a large-scale situation like the knife attack in the John Reed gym,” says Hausch. “The colleagues from Essen also took over. It’s about processes and communication channels.”

It was “only” the feeding street closed for the major exercise. When it will be finished is therefore still unclear. According to the police spokesman, such test runs lasting several hours take place routinely at certain intervals.
