Teams working on the Formula One (F1) track are paving the last race layer of the 3.8-mile circuit that includes stretches of Las Vegas Boulevard, Koval Lane and Harmon and Sands avenues, as well as the areas around the site from the paddock and MSG Sphere.

“This is the last layer of dense pavement that we are putting on the entire circuit,” said Terry Miller of Miller Project Management, who is overseeing the work.

That final coat was put on the Sands last week and is now being applied on Las Vegas Boulevard through Aug. 18. Paving will continue east on Harmon before ending around the Paddock building and Sphere, Miller said.

Miller expects the paving work to be completed in early October.

The months of construction have caused traffic problems in the area. Miller has worked with area properties to accommodate requests and ensure visitor and employee access.

“Not all the cones in the valley are F1 cones,” says Miller. “There are many projects underway in our valley and public works is doing a lot of summer work as is always the case during the summer months… We appreciate the patience of all affected employees across the loop. Give us a little more patience for the next couple of months as we wrap this up.”

The share that Clark County will pay for the $80 million in roadwork is still being determined. Clark County Commissioner Justin Jones said the two sides are still working out the details of the $40 million F1 is asking the county for.

“There was a meeting with the county manager this week and those discussions are ongoing,” Jones said.
