Laura Karasek got her best Christmas present at the beginning of November. That’s when she found out that she would soon be moderating Germany’s longest-serving rate show, “The NDR Quiz Show”.

“I couldn’t believe it,” she says to BILD am SONNTAG. “I thought I was on ‘get it fun’.”

Now it’s getting serious. On December 28, she will be leading the show for the first time, which Jörg Pilawa (57) has previously presented. Right at the start there is a celebrity special with Axel Prahl, Meret Becker, Reinhold Beckmann and other stars. What does she do against her stage fright?

“Others meditate, I have to sing,” says Karasek, who worked as a lawyer until 2018. “Most of the time I sing together with my stylist in the make-up and dressing room, preferably Mariah Carey or Whitney Houston. That relaxes me.”

And she also knows how to play guessing games!

“Every lunch with my family felt like a quiz show. I think I was six years old when it all started at home. We’ve always played a lot. I do the same thing with my children today.” And then everything is on the table: Trivial Pursuit, know-it-all, who wants to be a millionaire, save the million, game of knowledge. “I have a whole armada of board games at home.”

It’s no wonder that her twins (7) are inquisitive and ask their mum all the answers. “Children want to learn, that’s so great, they want to understand the world. But I also don’t have the answers to some questions. I’ll send them to dad or grandma.”

Laura Karasek always misses her twins, who she has with husband Dominic Briggs (36), when she is out recording her shows. “I have photos of my kids on my phone and voice messages. I listen to them before I sleep because I have a longing.”

By the way, the moderator found out that she was expecting twins after a skiing accident. “Eight years ago I broke my wrist on Christmas Eve and was in the clinic on morphine to find out I was pregnant. That was in the Engadin and the greatest gift of all time.”
