Why did Marathon Digital just sell 1,500 BTC?
Not familiar with Marathon Digital? The firm was founded by Peter Thiel (co-founder of PayPal, founder of Palantir, Founders Fund, venture capitalist…) – with the mission of positioning itself in the generation of digital assets (crypto mining, smart contracts, NFT… ). It is also to date the largest holder of Bitcoins to be listed on the stock exchange. However, the firm has just announced the sale of 1,500 BTC at the price of $21,500 – a price almost 70% lower than the historic record of $68,789.63. In fact, the firm explains that its production of bitcoins has increased to a sufficient level, and therefore decided to use this sale to cover its operating expenses. Following this sale, Marathon Digital still holds a lot of bitcoins: 8,090 BTC in total.
