Formula 1

Lewis Hamilton is one of the most famous and successful Formula 1 drivers of all time. The 38-year-old has been driving in the premier class for 16 years and is, among other things, a seven-time world champion. And since then he has also been in the car for Mercedes. Now Hamilton has revealed which other racing team he can imagine for his further career.

Hamilton comments on a change of racing team

Lewis Hamilton’s contract with the team expires this year. So far, it has not officially been extended. So is Hamilton considering a move? He commented on the rumors to TV broadcaster ESPN.

“I’ve been thinking about the Ferrari drivers and watching them on the circuit screens and of course you wonder what it would be like to drive in red.”

The switch to the Ferrari team is not more than a mind game for Lewis Hamilton at the moment. Instead, the 38-year-old emphasizes his attachment to Mercedes: “Then I go to my team, to Mercedes, and that’s my home. I’m happy where I am. I haven’t signed a contract yet, but we’re working on one.”

Lewis Hamilton wants to stay in Formula 1

Lewis Hamilton not only wants to remain loyal to Mercedes for longer, but also to Formula 1 itself. Because at the age of 38, the Briton is not yet thinking about retirement. He says he has no plans to stop racing any time soon: “I’m not at the end of my career, I’m not on the downward spiral of my career. I’m at my best. It all depends on how hard I am want to work and how well I stay physically and mentally fit.”

“I have a tremendous drive.”

Hamilton refers to other athletes who were able to achieve impressive success even at an advanced age: “If you look at LeBron James or Tom Brady, they showed that as long as you put in the energy and time, you can keep going. Right now I don’t plan to change, I just plan to increase the drive and motivation and get better. I have a tremendous drive.”

Return to McLaren not ruled out

Lewis Hamilton is certain that a contract extension with Mercedes is just a formality and emphasizes that he thinks long-term: “I don’t just want to stay here for a year. I want to stay longer.” However, the Briton does not rule out a return to his roots at McLaren, which formed a team with Mercedes at the beginning of his career but are now independent again.

Hamilton makes it clear: “I would be lying if I said I never thought about ending my career somewhere else,” he says. The Brit still feels part of the McLaren family. At the age of 13 he started his career as a junior driver with the British racing team. “I’ve been thinking about what it would be like if I were at McLaren one day”said is.

It would be a real sensation: Bayern veteran Thomas Müller allegedly wants to leave Munich. The reason should be his changed standing under the new coach Thomas Tuchel. Recently, this often only allowed Müller to stew on the substitute bench.
