Mexico City.- If there’s one way Rob Schneider advocates for his new movie What a Trip with Dad! (Daddy Daughter Trip) is from the heart.
The Californian stars in the film that hits Mexican theaters today, in which he did not have to please anyone or follow instructions, just practice the art of comedy for himself, since he is also the director and producer of a family story that seeks to move the fibers of the public.
In the shoes of Larry Buble, Rob plays a dad who will face unfortunate adventures, but will do everything possible so that his daughter Meara (Miranda Schneider, his daughter in real life) has the best vacation of her life.
“Working with the family is very nice, but it’s hard too. The boss is here,” joked Rob, 59, who also has his wife, Patricia Maya Schneider, on the crew as a writer on the project along with Jamie Lissow.
“The movie is my family and, you know, we hope the family enjoys it and there’s a lot of laughs.”
In the chat with Rob, his emotion was evident when talking about the experience of working with his daughter.
“I felt very proud and I also felt my heart break, because my daughter is very precious and time goes by very quickly, her childhood goes by very quickly. The scenes with my daughter are very beautiful and she is very natural,” he said. .
What a Trip with Dad! is a film made during the pandemic, in which the Mexican actress Mónica Huarte gives life to a famous blogger named Fernanda Arechavaleta, who by chance meets the character of Larry (Schneider).
“She’s a genius and an incredible actress,” the actor said of Monica. “It’s not necessary for directors to direct it, they just say, ‘Camera, action. Incredible cut. Movie’s over. Let’s go. New scene. Perfect.’ for the audience, for the film”, he said before the smile of Huarte, present at the interview.
On their favorite moment in the film, both Rob and Monica agreed.
“The scene with the stars is the best for me, it is the most powerful because it is the relationship between a father and a daughter,” said the Mexican actress.
The comedian said that this sequence that he shares with his daughter was done in one take.
“It’s perfect, it’s excellent, let’s just forget about the cameras, (he told his daughter) cameras don’t exist, it’s just me and my everything. And it turned out very well, the scene is very beautiful.
“The movie is what’s important, but the experience with my daughter is even more important, so there’s a balance.”
RECRUIT A SANDLER
In the film, the comedian also brought together the wife of his great friend Adam Sandler, Jackie, to give life to the character of Megan Buble.
Rob was questioned about that successful dumbbell with Adam that has been projected in many comedies.
“I’ve made more movies with Adam Sandler than with anyone else,” he said.
They have participated in about 18 titles together, such as They Are Like Children, Click: Losing Control, Like It Was The First Time and A Great Dad.
“It’s comfortable and there’s confidence that we can easily make changes. Confidence is very important in the movie and in life as well. (Adam) is very easy-going and also funny,” Rob said.
