The family of the Bolivian governor Luis Fernando Camacho reported that he was transferred “against your will” to the medical post of the jail where he is being held, after the politician find a hidden camera in his cell and demanded the entry of his defense and human rights organizations so that the opposition leader can deliver the artifact.
“As a family of Governor Luis Fernando Camacho, we request the presence of Human rights organizations and the independent press at the medical post of the Chonchocoro prison, where the governor is isolated against his will, in order to be able to hand over the camera found and to be able to inspect the cell where it was hidden,” they stated.
In the message, which was broadcast on the social networks of the governor of Santa Cruz, it is indicated that Camacho has in his possession the camera that was “embedded in one of the walls of his cell” and that he did not hand it over to the Police because “mistrust and she is worried that they will make her disappear to erase any evidence of the new violation of her human rights.”
For this reason, Camacho asks that his defense, human rights organizations and the press be allowed to enter to hand over the camera he found on Thursday while his wife was visiting him, according to the defense of the governor of Santa Cruz, the largest region of Bolivia. .
In addition, he asked the Government of Luis Arce not to carry out an inspection of his cell “as long as they are not present independent bodieshuman rights defenders, the independent press and defense lawyers”.
Camacho’s defense denounced on Thursday that the Police tried to take the camera from him and that they even offered him benefits if he handed over the device.
Faced with this situation, the opposition bench Creemos, of which Camacho is the leader, issued a statement in which they denounced “espionage in the style of dictatorships” pointing out that the American Convention is being violated, which states that “no one may be the object of arbitrary or abusive interference with their private life.”
For his part, the Vice Minister of Citizen Security, Roberto Ríos, stated that “the rights as well as the health” of the opposition governor have been protected and that in the next few hours the Penitentiary Regime will make a pronouncement.
Camacho has been in preventive detention for four months, since last December 28 when he was arrested in a controversial operation, and is being investigated for the crimes of terrorism, active bribery and seduction of troops, which is the usurpation of political or military command. in the framework of the “coup d’état I” case due to the 2019 crisis.
The ruling party points out that in 2019 there was a “coup d’état” against the then president Evo Morales, while the opposition maintains that the protests that led to the resignation of the former president were due to fraud in his favor in the annulled elections of this year.
