President Lula defended that the countries of South America cooperate with each other on a series of points in a meeting held at the Itamaraty Palace, in Brasília, this Tuesday (30). Among the president’s suggestions are the creation of a common unit of reference for trade to reduce reliance on extra-regional currencies and a regulatory convergence initiative to democratize import and export procedures.
The leader of the Executive also cited technological challenges faced by the world, from infrastructure problems, the spread of fake news, the effects of Covid-19 and the War in Ukraine, as a way to encourage the integration of Latin American countries in the face of the vulnerability of political scenarios and economical.
“In Brazil and in other countries, recent attacks on democratic institutions, including the seats of constitutional powers, have offered us a tragic summary of the violence of groups of extremists who use digital platforms to promote information campaigns and hate speech,” he said. Squid.
Lula stated that, together, the countries of South America make up the fifth global economy, with a consumer market of 450 million inhabitants. The president also suggested expanding state-of-the-art cooperation mechanisms involving services, investments, trade, electronics and competition policy, updating the project portfolio of the South American Infrastructure and Planning Council (Cosiplan) and the creation of a integrated group with representatives of each of the countries of South America to present a joint plan, in up to 120 days, on the debates that will take place in the meeting between the countries this afternoon.
