Almost every night somewhere in Germany an ATM is blown up. On Tuesday morning (January 10th), criminals struck in Willich-Anrath.

The number of machine blasts in North Rhine-Westphalia continues to rise: early on Tuesday morning (January 10), several previously unknown perpetrators struck and blew up an ATM in Willich am Niederrhein (Viersen district). Shortly after 3 a.m., local residents alerted the police to an explosive noise from a Volksbank branch in the village of Anrath.

The ATM and the bank’s premises were badly damaged by the explosion. Since there are no apartments above the bank, there is no danger to the residents, according to the police. Apparently, according to witness statements, one of the five perpetrators injured his left arm during the blast.

The perpetrators fled at high speed in a dark Audi Avant RS6, police said. Both the Autobahn 44 and the A52 pass near the scene of the crime.
