Attention dear Mac users: The new macOS 14 Sonoma has problems with PDFs.

As Heise reports, among others, the current version of Sonoma has difficulties exporting and printing certain PDFs. After printing, rectangles can be seen on the paper instead of font elements.

Preview app causes problems when printing

Users won’t see anything of this in Apple’s preview app beforehand. Macs with previous versions such as Ventura also print the same files correctly. It is not known why this is.

The problem also occurs when exporting PDFs to special PDF formats. There isn’t really a workaround – because the bug also appears when using third-party PDF clients.

It is also not clear whether the problem is a priority for Apple. But a bug fix is probably already being worked on. Affected users therefore primarily have to wait until Apple releases a new version of Sonoma.
