Madonna exceeds expectations and brings together 1.6 million people in Rio

RO DE JANEIRO.- Madonna gathered 1.6 million people on Saturday on the famous Copacabana beach for the closing of his tour The Celebration Tour, authorities said Sunday Rio de Janeiro.

The organization in charge of promoting the city, Riotur, celebrated the figure on social networks, which exceeds the forecast of 1.5 million.

The 65-year-old American artist delighted the crowd with almost two and a half hours of show with an impressive display of sets, lights and choreography. In her room concert In Brazil, Madonna thanked her for welcoming Rio, ‘the most beautiful place in the world’, and dedicated several moments of the show to proclaiming her love for the country.

Brazilian singers Anitta and Pabllo Vittar appeared on the monumental stage, as well as a group of young people with drums from different samba schools in Rio de Janeiro.

Connection with the public

It was a moment of communion with the public: the Queen of Pop wore the yellow-green jersey of the soccer team with the number 10 and the inscription Ciccone, her last name, and danced and jumped with the Brazilian flag.

When I interpreted Music The screens showed portraits of emblematic Brazilians, including Pel, Chief Raoni, Daniela Mercury, Maria Bethania, Caetano Veloso, Paulo Freire and Marielle Franco, the black and lesbian councilor murdered in 2018.

The organizers of the show also celebrated the success of the event, stating that it surpassed another milestone, when in 2006 the Rolling Stones performed on the same beach before a million people, according to a statement.

Since the afternoon, Copacabana was completely closed to vehicle traffic and became a huge boulevard dedicated to the singer.

The megaconcert on the beach, whose production involved thousands of people and altered the life of the neighborhood, was an economic bet by the Rio authorities, who injected 4 million dollars of the 12 million that the production cost.

The Mayor of Rio estimates that the show will contribute 60 million dollars to the local economy, with an unusual hotel occupancy for the time and hundreds of restaurants and merchants doing their extra season.
