Christian Heidel spoke a word of power in the Jae-sung Lee case. The sporting director of FSV Mainz 05 told ‘Bild’: “No one here is thinking of giving up Lee in the summer. We’ll talk to him calmly.” The South Korean had recently surprised on his blog with the public statement that it was time “to end the second half of the season well and to expect changes in the summer”.
Lee’s expressed desire for a change was therefore a translation error. A few days ago, Mainz coach Bo Svensson classified the statements of the 30-year-old in a similar category. In terms of sport, there is no reason for Lee to leave Rheinhessen early. The attacking midfielder never missed a game in the first half of the season and was directly involved in three goals in 15 league games. His contract in Mainz runs until 2024.
