Berlin.
At Sandra Maischberger, the debate about the heating went into the next round. The criticism of the Greens is getting sharper. It got heated.

Of course it got hot. But how could it be otherwise? After all, Maischberger on Tuesday evening was about the upcoming one, among other things Heating Act by Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck. The moderator had invited the Hessian Economics Minister Tarek Al-Wazir and Jens Spahn, Vice President of the German Bundestag.

“Maischberger”: Those were the guests

  • Tarek Al-Wazir (green)Hessian Economics Minister
  • Jens Spahn (CDU)faction deputy in the German Bundestag
  • Aydan Ozoguz (SPD)Vice President of the German Bundestag
  • Oliver Mayer-Rüth, Leiter ARD-Studio Istanbul
  • Jurgen Beckercabaret artist
  • Kerstin Palzercorrespondent ARD capital studio
  • Alexander Kisslereditor of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung

Jens Spahn (CDU) started things off and above all criticized the speed with which the new law should be passed before the summer break so that it can come into force on January 1, 2024. “Why does the law with the crowbar have to come into force in eight months,” he asked Maischberger. Germany’s share of the global CO2 emissions two percent. It is therefore irrelevant for the world climate whether the law will come in a year or two. “But for acceptance and when it comes to taking people with you, it makes a huge difference.”

Greens against CDU: Spahn speaks of “crowbar” in the heating dispute

“No crowbar,” countered Tarek Al-Wazir from the Greens. “We’re way too late.” After all, the grand coalition has decided that Germany should become climate-neutral by 2045. Because the lifespan of gas heaters usually amounts to more than two decades, it is high time to start phasing out fossil fuel combustion.

This is another reason why Al-Wazir, unlike his opponents, is definitely in favor of passing the law before the summer break. Because what you need most of all at the moment is planning security. At the same time, however, he was also in favor of “discussing whether everything has to come into force on January 1, 2024.” A view that Habeck recently confirmed in an interview.

More on the subject: Heating from 2024 – consumers face huge costs

Habeck’s heating law stipulates that from 2024 every newly installed heating system should be operated with 65 percent renewable energy – which is a ban on new Oil and gas boilers equals. There had been severe criticism of the plans, among other things because the question of the capacities of craftsmen and also the financial question has not yet been finally clarified. Kerstin Palzer from the ARD capital studio saw it that way. The Greens have distanced themselves so far from some people that they would not even notice how much they overwhelm many people. “That’s how they scare people and don’t get them on board,” said the journalist.

Greens after Bremen election in crisis: Habeck overwhelms the voters?

This is also noticeable in the election results, says Maischberger and repeatedly emphasized the bitter loss of votes by the Greens in the state election in Bremen. In an analysis of the Bremen electorate, four out of five voters said that the heating plans of the Green Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck overwhelmed the citizens. More than half of those who voted green said so: 55 percent.

For this reason, too, the question of social balance must be urgently clarified, said Al-Wazir. But that wasn’t enough for Spahn. With a promotion of acquisition cost the heat pump was not enough, said the parliamentary group leader. You also have to focus on the insulation. “For many, the costs are too high, even with 50 percent funding.”

He himself comes from a time when people with reasonably normal incomes could afford a house, heating and a car without the help of the state. With the law, that may soon no longer be possible. “Every average consumer then needs support from the state. That’s not how I see society.” And just at a time when many citizens are worried about rising prices, such prospects would make people wuschig.

Cabaret artist strikes back: CDU has overslept on climate change

Spahn gets a headwind from cabaret artist Jürgen Becker. We are only in the current situation because the previous government, i.e. the CDU, had not done enough to protect the climate in recent years. “Politics must now get down to business and you have to help people so that they can do it.” Because even if the changes cost something now, it would cost a lot more if not invested.
