Mali and Burkina Faso send a delegation to Niger to express their solidarity with the coup plotters

Bamako, Aug 7 (EFE).- A delegation from Burkina Faso and Mali sent a delegation to Niamey on Monday to express the support of the two neighboring countries for the coup junta in Niger amid threats from West African countries of possible military action to restore order in the African country.

As reported today by the Malian Armed Forces (FAMA) through its account on the X platform (formerly Twitter), the delegation is headed by the Minister of Territorial Administration and spokesman for the Transitional Government, Colonel Abdoulaye Maiga.

The objective of the visit is to show “the solidarity of the two countries to the brotherly people of Niger,” the message added.

Tension in the West African region has been high since the expiration at midnight yesterday of the ultimatum issued to the coup leaders by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), to return to power the deposed president, Mohamed Bazoum, under the threat of military action.

Burkina Faso and Mali, countries close to Moscow and governed by military juntas, oppose the use of force and claim that any intervention in Niger would amount to a declaration of war against them as well.

Last Wednesday a delegation from the Nigerian coup junta traveled to Bamako and Ouagadougou to study a common strategy of support and struggle. EFE
