Man reportedly shot and killed driver and his two dogs amid robbery in Prince George's

A man who stole a car allegedly killed the driver and two dogs in Prince George’s on Sunday, police said. The suspect would also have started a pursuit to Washington DC.

Authorities say the incident began in Prince George’s County when the suspect, whose identity has not been released, robbed someone at Addison Road and Rolling Ridge Drive at 12:12 p.m.

He then went to the 8400 block of Central Avenue, where he tried to steal another person’s car, police said.

The victim tried to walk away, “at which point the suspect fired multiple rounds, killing him,” said Zachary O’Lare, acting deputy chief of the Prince George’s Police Department’s Bureau of Investigations and Forensic Sciences.

The individual allegedly shot and killed two of the three dogs in the victim’s car, according to authorities.

“I’ve been doing this job for a long time, and it’s extremely rare to find a person who has such a disregard for life,” O’Lare said.

The subject then stole another person’s car and fled into the District sparking a police pursuit that ended on Sheriff Road.

Police later said the man got out of the car and immediately tried to rob a fourth person.

Capitol Heights police were among those who launched the manhunt in multiple jurisdictions.

They “engaged in a shootout with the suspect. Fortunately neither party was shot,” said Chief Darryl Morgan of the Capitol Heights Police Department.

The suspect was subsequently arrested. He faces charges in connection with the deadly shooting and carjackings in Prince George’s County.

“What I can say is that I am grateful that the community knows that the suspect is in custody, but what I don’t want is for it to overshadow the damage that he has done to our community,” O’Lare concluded.
