Man scammed after paying to view house for rent through Facebook

A 64-year-old man, a San Juan resident, was the victim of fraud while trying to rent a house through Facebook Marketplace, police reported Monday.

According to the complaint card, the victim contacted a person on the website who identified herself as Melany Quiñones, who asked her to send $100 to set up an appointment regarding the rental property.

According to the complainant, after making the payment, the woman requested more money for various items, which seemed suspicious. Given the situation, she decided not to send more money and reported the scam to the Monte Hatillo Precinct.

Agent Arnaldo Echevarría, from the aforementioned precinct, is in charge of the investigation.
