Mariners land new catcher in MLB veteran

SEATTLE.- Mitch Garver moves to Seattlegiving the sailors one of the strongest situations at the receiver position.

Garver, 32, hit .270 with 19 home runs and 50 RBIs in 87 games for Texas this year. In 14 postseason games he hit .226 with three home runs, helping the Rangers to win the World Series for the first time in franchise history.

Cal Raleigh was the starting receiver of Seattle this season and set personal bests with 30 home runs and 75 RBIs in 145 games. Garver could fill the designated hitter role, while he backs up Raleigh behind the plate.
