The new Minister of the Interior, Enrique Riera, announced that his administration will focus on three main axes to counteract the terrible insecurity that exists in the country. These measures will be to strengthen the Lince group, attack micro-trafficking and implement electronic anklets.
In an interview with the GEN channel, the Minister Enrique Riera He stressed that he is clear about the way in which he is going to deal with this escalation of violence that we have been seeing in recent months. In this sense, he explained that with President Santiago Peña they determined three axes for combat the prevailing insecurity.
The first axis will be to promote the lynx agents, which are a registered trademark. This will imply an effort to train human capital, a very intense course for those who are already police officers and are shortlisted, and the implementation of motorcycles with more than 600 displacements, which are the ones that have two uniformed officers on board and that respond quickly to needs of the population, according to Riera.
The second axis will be to frontally attack micro-trafficking, leaving the part of the offer in charge of the Ministry of the Interior, in charge of the Ministry of Health the demand with the treatment of those consumers, taking into account that, according to statistics, these produce 80% of the crimes, and in charge of the Ministry of Education the prevention of those who did not fall into drugs. “By reducing consumption, the crime numbers automatically decrease,” he said.
The third axis will be the challenge of implementing what is known as electronic anklets to prevent intrafamily violence. This considering that sometimes home prisons are not effective. “This law has been in force for five years, but due to internal disputes it could not be put into operation, we believe that we have the will and the technology to implement it. If we reduce family violence, if we reduce urban violence and react quickly, I believe that we will have better results before the end of the year, although it is always a daily struggle, because crime migrates as one generates responses, adjusts too, so we will continue to fight”, he pointed out.
