A huge explosion at a gas station in Dagestan, Russia, leaves 27 dead and more than 100 injured

The Russian Emergency Ministry said 115 people were injured and 35 of them had died, three of them children.

Some of the injured would be airlifted to Moscow for treatment, according to Russian state media. Makhachkala is about 1,600 kilometers (990 miles) south of Moscow.

Russian authorities have launched a criminal investigation. Tuesday was declared a day of mourning in Dagestan.

In another Russian region, Siberia, an explosion killed two people and injured five on Monday night. The incident occurred at night at an oil farm in the Khanty-Mansiysk region, according to local authorities.

The explosion in Dagestan was the deadliest in Russia since April 2022, when a fire at a defense research center in Tver, a city 160 kilometers (100 miles) north of Moscow, killed 22 people and injured a dozen. further.
