The Minister of Labor responded to the general secretary of the CGT, Sophie Binet, who had called for no “police provocation” during the demonstration on May 1.

“Let’s not invert the scale of value between the thugs and the police.” Invited this Monday morning by BFMTV and RMC, the Minister of Labor, Olivier Dussopt, responded to the general secretary of the CGT.

“The thugs, the violent”

Sophie Binet called on Sunday “the government and the prefects” to “not engage in police provocation” during the May 1 demonstrations. It is “not the right expression”, regretted Olivier Dussopt.

“The problem is not the police, it’s the thugs, it’s the violent and I don’t confuse them with the demonstrators”, explained the Minister of Labor on BFMTV.

He adds that the previous demonstrations of the inter-union against the pension reform were “rather well organized”. “It went well,” said Olivier Dussopt.

An upcoming meeting with the unions

The last day of mobilization against the reform, Thursday April 13, brought together 380,000 demonstrators in France, according to the Ministry of the Interior and more than a million according to the CGT. 80 people were arrested on the sidelines of the Paris procession and 76 police officers injured in the capital.

The Minister also specified that a meeting will be offered to the unions “in the coming days”. An invitation will be sent to them for a meeting which could take place “this week or next week”, he adds.
