MediaTek should work with Nvidia to use GeForce graphics in its mobile processors, as suggested by sources from the Asian news agency DigiTimes. The idea would not only be to boost the power of the Dimensity chip line for games and Artificial Intelligence, but also to establish a solution strong enough for both giants to enter the notebook segment on the Windows On ARM platform.

Rumors that indicate a partnership between MediaTek and Nvidia are not new, but it is the first time that a reputable source directly linked to the chip industry cites the joint work of the giants, as well as a window to see the results. According to the information, GeForce RTX family technologies would be integrated into an unannounced premium chipset from MediaTek for smartphones as early as 2024, allowing the Taiwanese manufacturer to boost graphics in its mobile solutions.

In addition to high graphics performance, Nvidia is known for having very robust technologies for Ray Tracing processing and especially Artificial Intelligence, thanks to the RT Cores and Tensor Cores, the giant’s specialized cores. This would be the first time that we would see both being adopted in low-power components focused on common users — the company has its own ARM chip with the RTX suite, but aimed at robotics, and at the moment there are only rumors that the successor to the Nintendo Switch bring these resources.

The information of DigiTimes also indicate that companies would be targeting one more segment: notebooks with Windows On ARM. Currently, only Qualcomm operates in the category, although MediaTek has already shown interest in grabbing a slice of this market several times. With the help of a powerful GPU, the attempt to attract consumers has a better chance of succeeding.

It is worth remembering that a strong cooperation like this already happens with Samsung and its Exynos family — the South Korean giant works with AMD and the technologies of the RDNA architecture, present in consoles and Radeon video cards for PCs. Interestingly, AMD and Nvidia are direct competitors in several segments, and an eventual arrival of the GeForce line to smartphones would mean the beginning of competition between the two in one or even two categories, since the Exynos with Radeon can also reach Windows.
