Having previously celebrated Christmas behind bars, the American rapper Meek Mill (35) is now trying to bring Christmas joy to a number of American families in a difficult situation.

Through his charity organization “Reform Alliance”, he has paid bail for as many as 20 female inmates in the Riverside Correctional Facility in Philadelphia, so that they can celebrate Christmas at home with their families.

This is written by several American media, among others XXL Magazine and CNN.

Redemption and gift card

– No one should spend the holidays in prison just because they can’t pay bail themselves. I am grateful to have the opportunity to help the women so that they can be with their families and loved ones at this time of the year, says the rapper to the local media Fox29.

The charity has also posted a post on their official Instagram. Here they write that, in addition to being released, the women will receive a gift card to buy groceries or gifts for the Christmas celebration.

Five of the women were released on 23 December, and were thus able to celebrate both Christmas Eve and Christmas morning with their families. According to Fox29, another 15 women will be released this week.

Created enormous engagement on social media

Meek Mill is a Grammy-nominated rapper, known for songs such as “Going Bad”, “Dreams and Nightmares” and “RICO”.

In 2017, the rapper was sentenced to two to four years in prison for violating the terms of his parole.

The news created huge engagement on social media, leading to the #FreeMeekMill movement. After spending five months in prison, the rapper was eventually released.

In 2019, Mill created the organization “Reform Alliance” together with Jay-Z and a number of sports and business leaders.

The organization aims to “reshape probation and parole by changing laws, systems and culture to create real pathways to employment and well-being,” according to its website.
