Over the years, independent video games have become a very important pillar for the industry, since in addition to filling the gaps in AAA releases, they tend to offer more interesting and unusual proposals. This year a new proposal will arrive with nocturnala platform game developed by the indie studio Sunnyside Games.
Last week Sunnyside Games in association with Dear Villagers announced their new platform game called Nocturnal, which is planned to hit consoles and PC in the spring 2023. This new odyssey of exploration is inspired by ancient Persia and leads us to discover the secrets of an ancient and mysterious island.
Nocturnal stars Ardeshir, a soldier of the Enduring Flame who returns to his home island of Nahran, only to find it shrouded in a gloomy mist by sinister forces that have overtaken it. The only way to drive away the mist is with fire and in Nocturnal you must use the flames wisely to kill the dark beings you encounter.
An official trailer was posted on the Dear Villagers Youtube channel when the new Nocturnal was announced, showing us fast-paced gameplay and a very interesting visual style, in which the fog and flames look particularly interesting. All the game mechanics we see in the trailer make different use of fire, so it will be interesting to see what puzzles await us in Nocturnal.
According to the founder of Sunnyside Games, Gabriel Sonderegger, “the flames and mist provide players with a perfect balance between feeling weak and oppressed, with fleeting moments of triumph as they engulf their weapons in fire.” However, in his statement Gabriel says that Nocturnal will not arrive until the end of the year, since spring 2023 in the southern hemisphere runs from September to December.
