Resume Builder, the online resume building site, conducted a poll to find out more about how the film Barbie has impacted viewers’ views on gender issues in the workplace.
To do this, in August, ResumeBuilder.com surveyed 300 Americans who saw Barbie, a film that has sparked debates about feminism and patriarchy and that is on track to become America’s highest-grossing film this year.
Among the results of the survey, it stands out that:
· 53% of viewers say that Barbie improved your opinion of women in the workplace.
· 74% of conservative men say that Barbie enhanced their view of women in leadership positions.
· The percentage of people who feel that women are the best leaders jumped from 20% before seeing the film to 29% after.
2 out of 3 say the movie made them more aware of patriarchy in the workplace.
62% say that the film led to self reflection.
AIScreen co-founder and CEO Nikita Sherbina believes that Barbie effectively explores gender stereotypes and patriarchy in the workplace: “By contrasting the initial perfect world of Barbieland with the discovery of male-dominated systems, the film subtly addresses the issue of patriarchy and its effects on women’s empowerment in both fictional and real settings.”
“The film actively challenges stereotypes about women. By showing Barbie’s journey through struggles and self-discovery, including dealing with doubts and insecurities, the film breaks with traditional notions and portrays women as multidimensional individuals with various strengths and weaknesses,” Sherbina said.
Finally, Sherbina added: “The film of Barbie skillfully portrays women as effective leaders through her description of Barbieland, where dolls can excel in various professions such as lawyers, doctors, physicists, and even presidents. This representation emphasizes the capabilities of women in leadership roles, reflecting a positive and empowering image.”
