The block of 7 between 73 and 74 registers several acts of insecurity that punish that area / Gonzalo Calvelo

The insecurity unleashed in a sector of the Villa Elvira neighborhood, according to what this newspaper was able to learn yesterday in the area, has two peculiarities.

On the one hand, it is intense and affects neighbors and merchants alike. But in addition, there is a curious aspect: several of the victims have their premises and homes a few meters from the eighth police station.

It is enough to talk with those who have already suffered from a criminal case or with those who have not experienced that unpleasant situation but feel equally stalked, to put down the undisguised anger and indignation that the issue generates in them.

That notorious annoyance was the one that even prompted a group of frontiers and merchants to transfer their complaints – last week – to those responsible for that section.

Some of those who participated in the meeting to raise the claim yesterday did not hide their displeasure over the arguments put forward by a police chief on the occasion.

“It was the straw that broke the camel’s back,” summed up yesterday afternoon a neighbor of the neighborhood who asked not to be identified.

But he acknowledged that after that meeting “with whom he said he was the deputy commissioner” merchants and residents of the place agreed to “burn tires between Tuesday and next Wednesday at 7 and 73, let’s see if once and for all they care about doing something to stop the robberies at any time we have in the area”.

“I CAN’T TAKE THIS ANYMORE”

Luciano (42) is the owner of the forage shop located at 7 between 72 and 73. In a conversation yesterday with this newspaper, in his business and accompanied by his family, he was blunt when asked about the insecurity that took over the area: “No this can last longer.”

He explained that criminal activities predominate in a radius comprised of “Calle 1 to 8, from 72 to 80.” And she maintained that the problem has been endured “for a long time.”

Then he clarified that “thefts occur both in businesses and in homes,” and indicated that they are committed “by day and also by night.”

Likewise, he pointed out that “in 8 between 73 and 74 there were already several searches in houses. He also cited that there were in recent months at addresses of “3 and 79, 4 between 79 and 80, 2 between 79 and 80 and 4 and 74.”

He did not forget to mention that some affected businesses were “a butcher shop of 7 between 73 and 74, a self-service of 7 and 73 and they even robbed three times in a store that is in front of the eighth police station. That’s too much”.

“We do not see patrolling, except when the shift change is made between 5 and 7 pm,” he later stated.

When asked what had been the response they were given at the police station when neighbors and merchants went to that unit to seek explanations, he replied that “they told us the same thing as on other occasions.”

“They assured us that they do not have a sufficient number of police officers, that patrolling depends on what the Departmental Headquarters decides, that they do not have some mobile phones in good condition and that the fuel they receive is not enough,” revealed the merchant.

“THERE IS ALWAYS SOME THEFT”

Carlos Domínguez (56) is the owner of a butcher shop of 7 between 73 and 74, one of the businesses that thieves chose a few months ago to rob.

While talking with a relative and preparing to open his business yesterday afternoon, he agreed to refer to EL DIA about the insecurity that plagues the neighborhood and that threatens to continue doing so.

“They entered my butcher shop at 3 in the morning, a few months ago, through an eave in the upper part of the premises,” he initially reflected.

Protected by the desolation that was on the street at that time when the vast majority of residents sleep, the thieves took their time to select what they cared to steal from this trade.

In this sense, Domínguez reported that “they stole a large bag with a lot of meat and also a television.”

According to what he was able to observe from the filming of a security camera on the block, the gang that forced his way into his butcher shop was made up of “four criminals.”

“It is tremendous what they steal around here, there is always a client who tells us about a robbery. It is something to find out almost every day. The situation is tremendous and the worst thing is that there are no prospects for this panorama to improve, ”she expressed with a gesture of inconsolation. And he recalled the case of “a neighbor from this block”, who “they tried to break into her house to rob, but she avoided it by activating the alarm. Then he called the police station and they told him they did not have cell phones.

In the neighborhood near the 8th police station, they agreed to make the protest after the end of the year holidays

The field of action of the criminals covers from 1st to 8th street and from 72nd to 80th avenue
