Metro hopes to get riders back with MacArthur Park station cleanup

Thousands of people fear for their lives when using the Los Angeles subway system, which is why some users have chosen to stop using public transportation.

Suspicious activity near the train tracks and the excessive consumption of alcohol and drugs, scared away a large percentage of the users of the los angeles subway.

“It’s very ugly,” says Rosa Flores, a Westlake area resident. “You see that I even stopped using the Metro.”

However, authorities at the Westlake/MacArthur Park station conducted a cleanup to recover the passengers. They also improved lighting and ventilation in the subway

“(It is) one of the busiest stations and we have to give due attention to all users in this area,” said Jose Ubaldo, Metro spokesman.

Some 20,000 people use that subway station to travel daily to different parts of the city. There they listen to the classical music that has begun to sound to fight crime.

“The stations are to provide a means of transportation to get in and out quickly,” said Ubaldo.

In addition to preventing homelessness, more than 300 uniformed officers guard the carriages to support passengers, report crimes, and provide Naloxone or Narcan in the event of an overdose.

However, around the subway station, irregular trade obstructs the journey of some passengers.

“(We want) to leave the roads and sidewalks free, sometimes you can’t even walk,” asks Flores.

With the improvements made to the station, the Metro authorities await the return of passengers who have stopped using that means of transportation since the pandemic.
