The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Elnur Mammadovassured that the bilateral relationship with Mexico is solid and there is potential to promote tourism, trade and investment in various sectors such as agro-industrial.

During his visit to Mexico in the framework of the thirtieth anniversary of diplomatic relations, the vice minister co-chaired, together with the Undersecretary of Foreign Relations, Carmen Moreno Toscanothe third meeting of the Mexico-Azerbaijan Political Consultation Mechanism, at the headquarters of the Mexican Foreign Ministry and also met with the bilateral Friendship Group in the Senate.

“Mexico and Azerbaijan have a solid relationship. 19 agreements are currently being worked on, including agreements on flights, customs, tourism, double taxation and trade,” he said.

He reiterated that tourism is central to the bilateral relationship, in addition to the fact that in the humanitarian field Azerbaijan will continue to help Mexico.

Despite the geographical distance, he assured that there is great potential to increase trade, which currently reaches 65 million dollars. Mostly the exports from Mexico to Azerbaijan it is about electrical equipment, tequila, cars and sugar, while Mexico receives aviation fuels.

He also reported that given the recovery of territories due to the Armenian conflict, opportunities are opening up for Mexican companies that want to participate in the reconstruction of these cities of approximately 10,000 kilometers.

Regarding the US-led peace negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the official stressed that the process is progressing slowly.

This week US Secretary of State Antony Blinken hosted Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan for bilateral peace talks at the George P. Schultz National Foreign Affairs Training Center .

After a series of bilateral and trilateral discussions, the parties made significant progress in resolving difficult issues.

“Both of them demonstrated a sincere commitment to normalizing relations and ending the longstanding conflict between their two countries,” Blinken reported, adding that both Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed in principle to certain terms and have a better mutual understanding of the positions of others on outstanding issues.
