Mexico sends a new contingent of firefighters to Canada to fight forest fires

Mexico City, (EFE).- He Government of Mexico sent a new contingent of a hundred forest fire fighters to Canada this Wednesday, which has accumulated weeks of suffering a wave of fires in its forests.

“A second contingent made up of 100 Mexican combatants and two technicians left this Wednesday for the province of british columbia to support the suppression of forest fires that affect that country,” announced the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Relations (SRE).

This measure was taken in response to the request of the Canadian Interagency Wildland Fire Center (CIFFC) to receive more international support.

By instructions of the President Andres Manuel Lopez Obradorwho recognizes the complex situation that Canada in response to the forest fires in that country and building on the solid foundation of bilateral cooperation, Mexico responded positively to a new request,” the Foreign Ministry stated.

The hundred Mexican firefighters left this Wednesday from the Guadalajara International Airport, in the western state of Jalisco, and after making a stopover in the Canadian city of Vancouver, they arrived in the province of British Columbia, on the west coast of the country.

All of them, influenced the SRE, They have “the experience, physical aptitude, and training required to remain in the field for as long as necessary, adhering to international standards to carry out the control and extinction tasks of forest fires.”

On June 19, a first team of Mexican specialists traveled to the province of Ontario, on the east coast, and is currently divided into five brigades that work in the regions of Dryden y Sudbury.

Among the actions they carry out are the installation of water pumping systems, tracking and liquidation of hot spots, as well as the opening of fire breaks and direct attack.

The support of Mexican personnel is part of the “Operational Plan for the Exchange of Resources for the Management of Forest Fires between Canadian and Mexican participants”, ratified this year by both governments.

Also in the trilateral commitments reached in the North American Leaders Summit, held in January in the Mexican capital and with the participation of the United States, to address the effects of climate change in the region. EFE
