MIAMI.- Six months after his arrival as mayor of Miami Beach, Steven Meiner addressed the residents of the municipality in a letter in which he reports on his management and addresses the “promises kept” of the campaign.
“It has been a dynamic six months, marked by actions and results,” Meiner said and stressed that his priority has been law and order, “achieving a robust legislative body and launching an infrastructure plan to make the city safer and more vibrant.” ”.
“With my Commission colleagues aligned, we have been able to turn promises into actions, implementing smart public safety legislation to address some of our community’s most pressing needs.”
He also said he had expanded the municipal prosecutor’s office team to ensure that those who commit crimes are held accountable.
In addition, “we began construction of important infrastructure projects, increased police visibility and prohibited homeless people from camping in public places.”
Meiner referred to the measures taken by the city to face spring break, which he considered his first major test.
“I am proud to say that we overcame it with flying colors thanks to a proactive plan, not a reactive one. “We reached out to Tallahassee for additional support.”
In the letter, he explained that one of his current priorities is to select a new municipal administrator. It seeks “someone who will focus on serving our residents, filling available vacancies in the city, ensuring public safety, encouraging smart development, improving aging infrastructure and addressing our city’s traffic challenge.”
The previous administrator, Alina Hudak, who resigned in March, will hold the position until June 26.
The mayor said he promised to prioritize smart growth that respects the character of Miami Beach “to stop overbuilding in the city.”
In this context, he showed it as an achievement of his administration that the city’s legislative body now needs the vote of six of the seven commissioners to approve the increase in the size of buildings, modifying the ratio of floors allowed to be built per area in the code of the city Hall.
“It is a victory for smart growth, which limits overdevelopment while preserving the charm of our city.”
Another of the successes mentioned was the creation of its own Traffic Management Center in Miami Beach that “plays a crucial role in traffic congestion, providing us with more tools and resources to make informed decisions that allow us to implement effective solutions.”
Finally, he promised that more traffic officers will soon be seen on the city streets.
