Man arrested for allegedly trying to stab his girlfriend

José María Duarte, 24, was arrested after allegedly trying to stab his girlfriend, reports Cameron County Sheriff’s Office Eric Garza.

According to the statement, a person called 911 and reported the altercation, so deputies from the Sheriff’s Office went to Cameron Park. However, before arriving at the scene, the agents located Duarte’s car and stopped.

Once the policemen went to the detainee’s residence, established contact with the girlfriend and took a statement from him. According to the victim, she got into an argument with Duarte and locked him out of the residence. At the time, she was holding her one-year-old daughter in her arms and she “feared for her safety,” the police account explains.

Apparently, Duarte convinced the victim to let him re-enter the residence, allegedly “managed to grab her by the face, push her into her bedroom and put a knife in her stomach,” police say.

During the course of the assault, the victim managed to flee with her daughter and call 911 for help. The girl was not injured during the incident and the victim refused to receive medical attention. In a search of Duarte’s vehicle, agents were able to recover the knife and record it as evidence.

Duarte was charged with one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, for which he was transferred to the Carrizalez Rucker Detention Center.
