Michael Douglas receives the Palme d’Or for his career at the 76th Cannes Film Festival in recognition “for his brilliant career and his commitment to cinema”, justified the direction in a statement.

In the same statement, the actor said that going to Cannes “is always a breath of fresh air” and that the last time he was at the festival was for the premiere, in 2013, of the film “Behind the Chandelier”, by Steven Soderbergh, in which he embodied the artist Liberace.

“After more than 50 years in this profession, it is always an honor to return to the ‘Croisette’ to open the festival and embrace our universal and shared language of cinema”he stated.

Michael Douglas, 78 years old, award-winning television and film producer and actor, both in independent films and in major Hollywood productions, is also recognized “for the defense of multiple causes”, namely nuclear disarmament and arms control, recalled the Cannes Film Festival.
