Everyone in Germany knows Michael Mittermeier: He is the man who invented the term “Arschgeweih”.

And so much is clear: Michael Mittermeier strains the laughing muscles of his fans. But how is it vice versa? How well can Mittermeier control his own laughter?

This is exactly the question for him as a participant in the fourth season of the streaming show presented by Michael “Bully” Herbig (54). “LOL: Last One Laughing” is the motto: If you laugh, you’re kicked out!

Origin and career of Michael Mittermeier

Art and music have always been part of the Mittermeier family: as a boy, Michael received piano and guitar lessons. His older brother Alfred Mittermeier also became a cabaret artist.

After graduating from the monastery high school, Michael Mittermeier studied political science and American studies at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich. Mittermeier was already interested in American stand-up comedy and made it the subject of his master’s thesis in 1994.

He then worked on his first stage show “Zapped!”, with which he toured Germany, Austria and Switzerland from 1996. At that time, Mittermeier was already filling really large halls. 400,000 people saw the show, and the accompanying CD sold 380,000 copies.

Michael Mittermeier made his first appearances as a comedian in the late 1980s. However, he really became known to the general public from 1992 through his stand-up appearances on the ProSieben show “Quatsch Comedy Club”.

The comedian has made shows and books about everyday life (“Back to life” 2000), or about politics (“Paranoid” 2004), about the customs of other countries (“Safari” 2008) and about his life as a dad (“Achtung Baby! ” 2010).

Michael Mittermeier has received many awards for his achievements as a comedian. He won the German Comedy Award five times, the Echo as “best national comedy star” and the ARD television award.

As a musician, too, Mittermeier always causes a sensation. In 2001 he supported U2 at the Berlin Waldbühne. His music-comedy crossover project “Mittermeier and Friends” (“Kumba Yo!” with the Guano Apes) became a Top 10 hit.

In 2005 he co-moderated the “Live8” concert with Anne Will in front of a good 150,000 spectators in Berlin.

In 2006 he appeared together with his personal idol as co-host of the big TV gala “Happy Birthday Jerry Lewis” (ZDF) for his 80th birthday.

Michael Mittermeier has been married to the singer Gudrun Allwang, also known by her stage name Somersault, since 1998.

The couple lives in Pullach in the Isar valley with their daughter Lilly, who was born in January 2008.

Mittermeier always supports many social projects. These include the “Your voice against poverty” campaign and the “Vulamasango” project, which helps children and young people from the townships of Cape Town.
