He May 24 arrives at Disney+ “Neither from here, nor from China”, a new series based on the novel by Gene Luen Yang which recounts the trials and tribulations of a teenager whose life is changed forever when he befriends the son of a mythological god.

The coming-of-age adventure features an all-star international cast including award-winning actors Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan (Everything, Everywhere at the Same Time); Ben Wang (You Can Do It Chang); Yeo Yann Yann (Wet Season), Chin Han (Mortal Kombat); Daniel Wu (Reminiscence); former taekwondo champion Jimmy Liu; and Sydney Taylor (Just Add Magic).

Stephanie Hsu plays Shiji Niangniang, the Goddess of Stones; Ronny Chieng is the offbeat monk Ji Gong; Jimmy O. Yang is the Dragon King Ao Guang; James Hong is Jade Emperor; Leonard Wu is Niu Mowang/Bull Demon; and Poppy Liu is Princess Iron Fan. The series also features Lisa Lu as acupuncturist Ni Yang and Rosalie Chiang as student activist Suzy Nakamura.

Award-winning writer-producer Kelvin Yu (Bob’s Burgers, Central Park) is executive producer and showrunner. Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi) is directing and also serving as executive producer along with Melvin Mar and Jake Kasdan (both of Doogie Kamealoha. MD, Jumanji: Into the Jungle, Jumanji: The Next Level), Erin O’Malley (Doogie Kamealoha, MD), Asher Goldstein (Short Term 12, Seeking Justice), and Gene Luen Yang.
