That reports dr Windows and also immediately realizes that this change doesn’t have much to offer apart from the new name. The release notes (e.g. in the Apple App Store) only say very briefly: “The Office app is now the Microsoft 365 app.” So don’t be surprised if you find a supposedly new app on your devices instead of an Office update.

Rebranding complete
With the renaming of the Windows and smartphone apps, Microsoft is now completing the rebranding of its office package. The new name has been in various places for a few months, most recently in the Insider program. As Microsoft explains in an FAQ list, the various parts of Office are getting a rebrand that puts the “Microsoft 365” name in the spotlight. This rebranding should now be complete.

“Over the past several years, Microsoft 365 has become our flagship productivity suite. That’s why we’re creating an experience that helps you get the most out of Microsoft 365. In the coming months, Office.com, the Office mobile app, and the Office app for Windows to Microsoft 365 app, with a new icon, a new look, and even more features. These changes apply to anyone who uses the Office app for work, school, or personal life.”
The change had been planned for several years. The group had finally started to offer the subscriptions previously marketed as “Office 365” under the new name. Office, on the other hand, as a collective term has now had its day. The Office brand was launched by Microsoft in November 1990, so it has been around for around 32 years.
