Microsoft has confirmed that it is investigating a bug related to these errors in its operating system. An advisory from Barco (developer of ClickShare) updated an advisory issued in July 2022 to share a script for PowerShell provided by Microsoft Support to help affected users.

In August 2022, Microsoft published a statement acknowledging that its software was blocking the permissions of affected applications and causing them to freeze or connection problems. Thankfully, Barco shared a way to fix these bugs this week.

According to the BleepingComputer website, users have reported that sometimes they cannot see the Start menu button when they click on it, in addition to the Windows search feature not working and they are unable to open applications as well. Other Windows users have also said they are having trouble logging into Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) to activate Office 365 apps.

Fixing corrupt registry permissions

A PowerShell script has been shared by Barco to help alleviate issues of corrupted permissions of user shell folder records. The script can be downloaded from the Barco website here. However, if the problem is not resolved after running it, you must manually disable the Calendar Integration feature in the dialog in ClikShare settings.

According to Barco, the Microsoft team is investigating how to solve the problem and advises those affected by the bugs to contact Microsoft to file a report of what is happening.

The issue is under investigation with the Microsoft Windows team, but it is still good practice to contact the Microsoft Windows team directly to flag this issue. Be sure to mention for the ticket submission the title “start menu or taskbar unresponsive.
