CDMX.- The president of the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo), Ignacio Mier, ruled out that current advisers of the National Electoral Institute (INE) can assume the presidency of the General Council for the time that remains.

He indicated that, when preparing the call for the selection process, what the Constitution says about the term of directors was analyzed, specifying that the position is for 9 years.

“A punctual review was carried out by the members of the Constitutional Points Commission, the legal representative of the Chamber, the links of the parliamentary groups and it is established that, in the Constitution, derived from the 2014 reform, which may only be those who have guaranteed their presence for 9 years,” he said.

He considered that the seven directors who will remain in the INE, with three and six more years in office, could not constitutionally seek the presidency of the Institute.

He added that, in any case, the electoral advisors or councils could present an appeal, if they believe that their rights are violated with the call issued by the plenary session of the Chamber.

He stated that in the call it was clear that in the renewal of INE members, the president of the Institute must be elected from one of the four quintets.

He recalled that the “golden quintet” must be made up of three women and two men, in order to comply with the affirmative action of gender parity.

In the Chamber of Deputies, counselor Claudia Zavala questioned whether counselors who will remain in office can seek the INE presidency.

Said she won’t.

“If we already are, how are we going to sign up to be again?

“I can speak for myself: I am an electoral advisor and I was appointed for 9 years and I have that position,” she said in an interview.

He added that there are criteria that have been taken in the Electoral Tribunal and the Court on the position of advisors, which should be taken into account by the deputies.
