Cochabamba, Bolivia.- A prosecutor in Bolivia requested this Thursday six months of preventive detention for the Governor of Santa Cruz and opposition leader, Luis Fernando Camacho, accused of “terrorism” in a case related to the departure of former leftist President Evo Morales in 2019.

“The precautionary measure that has been requested is preventive detention for a period of six months, to be served in the Chonchocoro maximum security prison,” said the prosecutor assigned to the case, Omar Mejillones, at a press conference.

According to the resolution, there is an alleged flight risk on the part of the politician.

In his hearing before the prosecutor handling the case, Camacho remained silent but delivered a note through his defense in which he said that “my only fault is having defended democracy and having stopped fraud.”

Camacho’s legal representatives denounced on Thursday that the justice of the Andean country refuses to receive an appeal to request the release of their client.

“The Bolivian judiciary kidnapped by the MAS (Movement to Socialism) does not allow the lawyers of our leader Luis Fernando Camacho to carry out the respective process to present a freedom action,” said the team of the Governor of Santa Cruz through the Twitter account of the politician

Camacho is accused of alleged terrorism by members of the MAS, whose leader is Evo Morales, who applauded his arrest and asked to “also prosecute the accomplices” of the Governor.
