Guadalajara (Mexico), Apr 27 (EFE).- Migration, the search for better opportunities and the difficulties of leaving home are reflected in “Exodus”, a clothing collection presented in Mexico this Thursday as part of the Mercedes Benz Guadalajara Fashion Week 2023.
The pieces tell stories whose protagonists are “The Beast”, the train with which Central Americans cross Mexico towards the United States, peasants who leave their land or who travel in search of a professional design.
“As humanity we feel that call to move, to leave our origins, the collection covers themes such as migration, the rural exodus, we wanted to see how to translate it into fashion, in a collection that tells the story of how societies They have looked for new places to settle,” Emilio de Anda, creative director of the Toronero brand, told EFE.
De Anda and David Hernández, project developer for the Mexican firm, created 26 outfits for the autumn-winter season that also reflect the multiculturalism that migration processes have brought to all countries.
“In this process, one adapts and absorbs aesthetics typical of the place, you take them to your place of origin and all this syncretism is generated, this mixture”, indicated De Anda.
Some of the pieces were intervened by the artisan Santiago Mora, originally from the state of Jalisco and who captured images related to urban and rural migration.
The brand opted for beef leather to make its designs for pants, jackets, dresses, skirts, as well as ankle boots, boots and bags, which are complemented by loose-fitting blouses and shirts in fabrics that are easy to handle and ready to wear.
Black, gray and coffee are the base colors of this collection that are combined with moss green, copper, sand and purple with different textures and applications.
The pieces are created under the unisex concept with the intention of breaking gender stereotypes and promoting inclusion, concluded De Anda.
