Recent Tesla Model 3 and Y buyers, who have not yet received their car, had a heat stroke when they discovered the new prices published by Tesla this Friday, January 13, 2023. Good news, they will not have to cancel their order to enjoy.

The announcement of Tesla’s new prices this Friday the 13th has made people happy, disappointed, but also certainly some worried among buyers who have placed an order in recent weeks for a Model 3 or a Model Y.

Discovering the new prices, buyers with open purchase orders may have wondered if they should cancel their order to place a new one. The good news comes to us from Tesla, which says the new prices will be applied automatically to undelivered orders.

A massive cancellation of purchase orders would have made a mess

Unlike before at Tesla, it won’t be necessary for the customer to cancel their order, lose their deposit and make a new one to benefit from the lower prices.

With up to €13,500 difference between the two rates, we can understand that buyers felt ready to lose €250 down payment to switch to the new rates, even if it meant extending the waiting period a little. For once, Tesla seems to have anticipated the problem. The brand will not charge the initial price recorded at the time of the order, but the updated price of the Model 3 or Model Y ordered by the customer.

It must be said that the brand has found itself since October 2022 with many abandonments of order forms on the Model Y propulsion. Some buyers were no longer able to pay the final amount because of the drop in trade-in (and used) prices for their old Tesla. This episode had pushed the brand to have to sell its new vehicles, sometimes with discounts or by offering options, to liquidate the stock. It would have been catastrophic for Tesla’s image to find itself again faced with a massive abandonment of Model 3 and Y freshly arrived in dealerships at the start of 2023.

The discontent of those who have already received their Model 3 or Y

If undelivered orders see their price updated, customers who recently received their model clearly feel aggrieved. However, this is not the first time that the brand has acted in this way; these same customers could have been delighted when, shortly after their order, prices increased without having an impact on their model. Of course, in the opposite situation, it is always more difficult to pass.

We can see on some private groups of fans of the brand virulent remarks. We even came across a call to come and demonstrate in front of some service center of the brand. This movement, which we have also been able to observe in China, aims to try to obtain compensation, failing to be able to obtain a discount on the price which has already been paid.
