At least 51 people died on Sunday in two dramatic accidents that occurred within hours of each other in western Pakistan: a bus that fell off a bridge killed at least 41 people and a boat capsized that killed 10 children.

A rescue operation was underway on Lake Tandam in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Sunday after a boat carrying between 25 and 30 students from a local school who were on a field trip capsized, the rescue officer told AFP. Police officer Mirrauf.

Ten children between the ages of 7 and 14 were found dead and 11 others could be rescued, of which 6 are in critical condition, the police added. There are still nine who are missing.

Hours earlier, at least 41 people lost their lives in a bus accident that exploded after falling from a bridge, in the north of the city of Bela, in the district of Lasbela, province of Balochistan (southwest).

“The dead bodies are unrecognizable,” said Hamza Anjum, a district official.

One of the three people who survived the accident and was able to be extracted from the wreckage succumbed to his injuries. Two others are in critical condition, she added.

The bus was carrying 48 people when it collided with a pillar of the bridge and fell into the void, the person in charge explained.

The vehicle had left the provincial capital, Quetta, and driven overnight to the port town of Karachi, located some 700 km to the south.
