Mother’s Day has been celebrated in Austria on the second Sunday in May since 1914. Those who give gifts spend an average of 50 euros – in Vorarlberg a total of nine million euros can be expected to be spent.

“Pastel bouquets dominated by delicate pink and purple tones are particularly popular this year. What is required is a lovely, delicate design, for example in round shapes, for example in the trendy loops or as a heart. It is also important that the products are natural and regionally produced or come from local cultivation, which is very important to our specialist companies,” says the guild master.
Mother’s Day revenue generator
Mother’s Day is also a particularly lucrative business for retailers. On this day, it is not surprising that presents are given most frequently to one’s own mother. Many Vorarlbergers also give presents to their partners and mothers-in-law. Those Vorarlbergers who give gifts spend an average of 50 euros. Overall, expenditures of nine million euros are expected for the entire retail sector.

“The vast majority of presents are bought in brick-and-mortar stores, including drugstores, perfumeries and jewelry stores,” says Carina Pollhammer, head of the retail division at the Vorarlberg Chamber of Commerce.
