The video of the moments after the incident was released on social networks. The user in charge of documenting explained that a van Slingmodel CR-V, invaded the Metropolitan Recreational Route and ran over the three users who were driving their pedal vehicle. Similarly, he asked for support in locating the person responsible and denounced the lack of action by the state police.
“We encountered a misfortune, a truck entered the confined lane for the ride and ran over three cyclists. Unfortunately one of the three has already passed away. Share so we can track down the culprit. He saw them, centered them and hit them hard. He didn’t care that they were there, ”he pronounced while recording the scene of the incident.
Similarly, according to the testimony of the narrator of the video, the medical services were not present in the fifteen minutes after the fatal event.
Hours later, through social networks, the State Goverment and the Town Hall of Puebla issued a joint statement about the incident. In the document confirmed death of a cyclist as well as that the others received specialized medical attention. Although they were able to secure the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run, they did not disclose the arrest of the person responsible.
“Both the state and municipal governments are in contact with the relatives to support in a timely manner in the face of any requirement of this unfortunate event,” the document reads.
As reported, before the motorist ran over the cyclists in the Straight to Cholula, at the height of Calzada Zavaleta, had an altercation with state police officers who were guarding the route. It even hit a patrol from the municipality of Coronango.
The event caused outrage on social networks, as various users questioned the security provided to cyclists in the sunday walk. In the same way, a sector demanded protection measures, for those who use said means of transport, through a Mobility Law capable of preventing or punishing similar cases.
“Is that the care they give to their walks?”, “Outrageous!”, “cochistas are the cancer of the city”, “the assholes with trucks are the worst” and “the police from Puebla do not grab or a cold”, were some of the comments spread on social networks.
On the other hand, in the last paragraph of the statement released on the official profile of @PueblaAyto, it was read: “All drivers are urged to respect the signs during these circuits, as well as the signs on the streets to prevent the situation repeats itself.”
The Metropolitan Recreational Route consists of an 18-kilometer circuit that crosses the municipalities of San Andres and San Pedro Cholulaas well as cuautlancingo and Puebla. It is enabled on the last Sunday of each month between 08:00 and 14:00, although a sector of users has requested that it take place every eight days.
It is worth mentioning that the initiative promoted by the Ministry of Mobility and Transportation of Puebla It has been claimed by the authorities as a “safe public space free of motorized vehicles”. However, the incident on April 30 called into question the ability of the police to prevent the entry of said vehicles, as well as their ability to respond in the event of a run-over.
