The Prime Minister confided in the columns of the JDD, a year almost to the day since her entry into Matignon.

On May 16, 2022, Elisabeth Borne entered Matignon. A year later, almost to the day, the Prime Minister gave an interview to the Sunday newspaperwhich sounds like a balance sheet of his first anniversary as head of government.

This year has been “intense”, says the Prime Minister, who praises the “solid and coherent balance sheet” of the majority, with 27 texts adopted. “We have carried out difficult but essential reforms. We will continue to make the enhancement of work a priority (…) We are making progress for the French,” she says with satisfaction.

Elisabeth Borne also praises “a majority which has been able to remain united despite the difficulties linked to the war in Ukraine, the reforms and the political situation”. “Our three groups, Horizons, MoDem and Renaissance have different sensibilities. But when it came to supporting pension reform, which was unpopular, no MP missed out,” she said.

“I have no doubt that some would see themselves in my place”

The Prime Minister, however, explains that she has some regrets about the pension reform, assuring that she would have preferred “that we could make more progress with the social partners”. “I want us to be able to resume the dialogue quickly,” adds the one who invited the unions to Matignon on May 16 and 17.

Despite everything, she assumes to have carried this retirement. “The French have understood that it was a question for some of them of working longer. I regret the comments which, in the debate, may have led people to think that this reform was not necessary. This has sown the trouble in the minds of our fellow citizens,” she added.

And the Prime Minister does not plan, for the moment, to leave Matignon. “For a year, I have been working to provide concrete responses to meet the country’s considerable challenges that our country is facing. I want to continue to meet these challenges, and I will put all my energy and determination into it”, insists- she. “I have no doubt that some would see themselves in my place (…) Moving forward is the only thing that matters to me”.
